Which lasts longer — EDT or EDP?

EDP. It contains 15–20% fragrance oils compared to 5–15% in EDT, so it usually lasts five to eight hours, while EDT lasts about three to five.

Why does perfume last less on my skin than on others'?

Dry skin loses fragrance faster. Apply perfume right after a shower onto moisturised skin, and choose a higher concentration if the scent fades too quickly.

Perfume concentration — EDT, EDP and parfum explained

EDT, EDP, parfum and cologne differ in the amount of fragrance oil — and that determines both longevity and price.

The label on a bottle indicates the fragrance oil concentration in the alcohol base. Eau de Cologne typically contains 2–5% oils, Eau de Toilette (EDT) 5–15%, Eau de Parfum (EDP) 15–20%, and Parfum or Extrait 20–30%. The higher the concentration, the longer the scent lasts on skin and the fewer sprays are needed.

In practice, EDT is lighter and fresher, so it works well in summer and in work settings where an intense scent isn't wanted. EDP lasts five to eight hours and is the most versatile choice, including in a cooler climate where a fragrance opens up on skin more slowly. Parfum concentration is an evening and winter choice — a few drops on pulse points replace several EDT sprays.

Longevity also depends on skin type and how it's applied. Scent lasts longer on moisturised skin, and even longer, though altered, on clothing. Don't rub your wrists together after spraying, as it breaks down the top notes.
